School Counseling

Overview

"Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification, and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success." — American School Counselors Association

Fox Chapel Area School District's elementary counselors play many roles within the school – most importantly to help students become emotionally, behaviorally and socially successful in the classroom. They provide services through a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on preventive education. The core components include classroom lessons, small groups, schoolwide programs, and consultation. In addition to the core components of the guidance curriculum, school counselors also coordinate district testing, new student inquiries and various activities that promote student social and academic success.
